The Gaze Within–abstract drawing

The Gaze Within

In the chaos of lines, a hidden gaze emerges—step back, and let the fragments reveal their story. Where mystery and majesty meet in every stroke. What do you see?

whispers of the deep, oilpainting with beach sand

Whispers of the Deep

There’s a quiet conversation happening where the land meets the ocean—one that’s felt as much as it’s seen. In this piece, two whale sharks glide through a world of texture and memory, their forms shaped by palette knife and the raw grit of Keurboomstrand sand. The vertical strokes, like rain or dappled light, blur the line between sky and sea, inviting you to pause and listen to the whispers of the deep.

This painting is part of my series ‘Dialogue Between Sand and Sea’, where I explore the tactile and emotional connection between Plettenberg Bay’s wild landscapes and the creatures that call it home. Every brushstroke, every grain of sand, is a nod to the fragile beauty of our coastal world.

Whale Song in Turquoise

Whale Song in Turquoise

As an artist deeply rooted in the natural beauty of Plettenberg Bay, my work is a celebration of the wild, untamed spirit of this coastal landscape. Inspired by the majestic presence of humpback whales—like the one captured in this piece—I seek to evoke both the power and the quiet grace of these ocean giants.

This piece is crafted using a tactile, layered technique, blending sand from Keurbooms Beach with linseed oil and pigments. The textured surface  mirrors the rugged beauty of the coastline and the rhythmic movement of the waves. The turquoise hues reflect the vibrant, ever-changing colours of the ocean, while the stretched hemp canvas provides a natural, organic foundation that grounds the piece in the raw essence of nature.

Echoes of the Deep - Painting of a Whale with Beachsand

Echoes of the Deep

In “Echoes of the Deep,” I seek to capture the majestic presence of the whale—a creature of profound grace and mystery—as it moves through the endless blues of the ocean. Using a meticulous pointillist technique, I build the scene dot by dot, mixing pigments, linseed oil, and the very sand of Keurbooms Beach. Each point of color becomes a whisper of the sea, a fragment of the vast, shifting waters that cradle these gentle giants.

The blues in this piece are not merely colors but emotions: the deep indigo of quiet solitude, the cerulean of playful waves, and the turquoise of sunlit shallows. The sand, gathered from the shores of Keurbooms, grounds the painting in the tangible world, connecting the viewer to the land and sea that inspire this work.

Through this painting, I invite you to pause and listen—to the rhythm of the tides, the songs of the whales, and the stories carried by the ocean’s endless horizon.
