The Gaze Within–abstract drawing

The Gaze Within

In the chaos of lines, a hidden gaze emerges—step back, and let the fragments reveal their story. Where mystery and majesty meet in every stroke. What do you see?

fractured reflection abstract portrait

Fractured Reflection

In ‘Fractured Reflection,’ the interplay of bold lines and vibrant colors captures the essence of an abstract portrait—a man standing before a bridge, his form dissolving into a mosaic of emotion and memory.

The fragmented style mirrors the complexity of human identity, where each piece tells a story of connection, solitude, and the bridges we cross in life. This work invites viewers to explore the layers of perception, where the boundaries between self and surroundings blur into a harmonious chaos.

whispers of the deep, oilpainting with beach sand

Whispers of the Deep

There’s a quiet conversation happening where the land meets the ocean—one that’s felt as much as it’s seen. In this piece, two whale sharks glide through a world of texture and memory, their forms shaped by palette knife and the raw grit of Keurboomstrand sand. The vertical strokes, like rain or dappled light, blur the line between sky and sea, inviting you to pause and listen to the whispers of the deep.

This painting is part of my series ‘Dialogue Between Sand and Sea’, where I explore the tactile and emotional connection between Plettenberg Bay’s wild landscapes and the creatures that call it home. Every brushstroke, every grain of sand, is a nod to the fragile beauty of our coastal world.

effulgence in stripes, abstract watercolour painting

Effulgence in Stripes

Title: “Effulgence in Stripes”

Artist Statement:

“Effulgence in Stripes” captures a moment of serene surrender—a woman reclined, her form dissolved into a tapestry of blue and white. From afar, the stripes coalesce, revealing her tranquil repose, hair fanning out like roots grounding her to the earth. Up close, the painting dissolves into abstraction, inviting the viewer to question the boundaries between form and perception.

This piece explores the duality of presence and absence, how identity and emotion can both emerge and fade with perspective. The bold, rhythmic stripes evoke the layers of experience that define us, yet also obscure us. In this tension, there is peace: a reminder that clarity often comes not from scrutiny, but from stepping back.

Created in February 2026, this watercolour on 300gsm paper plays with the interplay of distance and intimacy, inviting the viewer to find their own moment of stillness within the chaos of lines. The limited palette and dynamic brushwork reflect both the complexity and simplicity of being—how we are all, at once, both the figure and the stripes.

Red Ties

This drawing critiques the indifferent attitudes of the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, and US-President Donald Trump towards Gaza. Depicting them discussing a seaside resort while Palestinians suffer, it highlights the stark contrast between political ambivalence and human tragedy.

The red ties symbolize the bloodshed, and the golden Trump statue overlooks barbed wire, emphasizing the divide.

Israeli police brutality and a grieving mother by a mass grave underscore the harsh realities faced by Palestinians.

The artwork aims to provoke thought and empathy for those affected by the conflict.
